Diddy: The Documentaries

Fourteen titles in two years, from same-week specials to the four-part series that just won an Emmy — and the women whose accounts run underneath all of them.

Sean Combs had spent thirty years as one of the most photographed men in American music before a camera turned on him this way. The civil complaints began in November 2023 with Cassie Ventura's, and the cameras followed the suits, not the arrest: TMZ's first Downfall of Diddy premiered in April 2024 and 60 Minutes Australia ran its segment in June, both months before the federal indictment came in September. TMZ had the next one on air ten days after the arrest, ABC's 20/20 followed in October, a third TMZ special landed in November, and through 2025 Netflix, Peacock, Investigation Discovery, the BBC and NBC all arrived. Fourteen titles are on file here.

The titles alone trace the case — The Downfall of Diddy, then the Indictment, then His Defense, then Inside the Diddy Trial, then Verdict — and the people in them are the people in the filings. Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones, suing at the time, sat for TMZ's first special. The lawyers followed, and not always as commentary: Lisa Bloom, who represents an accuser, is an interviewed guest in the BBC film and a credited co-director of Peacock's Diddy: The Making of a Bad Boy. Tony Buzbee appears for the accusers, Marc Agnifilo for Combs. The women at the center of it appear mostly in archive — footage shot years before any of them gave testimony. What they had to say was recorded somewhere else: in depositions, in complaints, on a witness stand.

Sean Combs: The Reckoning is the one built to last. Alexandria Stapleton's four-part Netflix series, executive produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, went into this year's Emmys with three nominations and won Outstanding Picture Editing for a Nonfiction Program at the Creative Arts ceremony on September 5. It is also the only title here with the time to do what the rapid-response specials could not: sit with accusers at length, and — after a trial that acquitted Combs of the most serious federal charges, convicted him on lesser counts and sent him to prison for fifty months — put two of the jurors on camera.

Everything around it is a record of speed. TMZ made five specials to Netflix's one and was first every time. One wave was covering a news cycle; the other was making a record of it.

One title predates all of it, and it is not about Combs. On the Record follows Drew Dixon, a former Def Jam executive, as she decides whether to put her name to what she says Russell Simmons did — allegations he denies — with Sil Lai Abrams and Sheri Sher weighing the same choice. Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering shot it in 2019, before any complaint against Combs was filed. The question that film turns on is the one that surfaced again three years later, and in every filing since: what it costs a woman to say it out loud.
